Synopsis
This book describes which documents and photo's the writer found in the inheritance of his mother in law. He found the meaning of the documents and found a lot of impressive stories about the Resistance in The Hague and Voorburg. He also found some actors of liquidations that were presumably never published before. This book gives an impression of the situation in The Hague and Voorburg at the end of the war from the point of view of the people in the Resistance. The bombardment of the area of "Bezuidenhout" is frequently mentioned. As the writer has given as much as possible the names and photo's of the people involved, the Resistance Fighters are given a name and a face. The book gives an index with 400 names and shows 200 photo's.
About Wim Mertens
Ir Wim Mertens (1954) is opgeleid als informaticus en is vijfendertig jaar actief geweest in de ontwikkeling van software. Na het overlijden van zijn schoonmoeder in 2007 werden een groot aantal documenten en foto's gevonden, waaruit bleek dat zijn schoonmoeder tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog actief is geweest in het verzet in Den Haag. Zoekend naar de betekenis van deze documenten werd hij gegrepen door de onbekende verhalen van vele verzetsstrijders. Naarmate zijn zoektocht vorderde, werd hij zich ervan bewust dat de gevonden informatie niet verloren mocht gaan. Een zoektocht van meer dan vijf jaar heeft geresulteerd in het boek De Tweede Compagnie, waarin de schrijver vertelt hoe zijn zoektocht is verlopen en wat hij heeft gevonden.
