Synopsis
Frank Douglas is a shy teenager who is only at the start of learning how to make a living in Allihies, a coastal village in Ireland, in the mid-60s. He lives on his own in a small white house with his MGB sports car. His best friend Ellie Bell is a very sardonic teenage girl with odd views on God and swearing who lives with her large and wealthy family. Frank and Ellie get together every weekend to look for odd jobs to earn money or get payment in kind to make Frank’s life easier. In the four short stories, they are given jobs to paint a gutter, babysit a toddler, take out the rubbish and try out a survival game. A collection of very simple jobs that, as a result of Frank and Ellie’s ingenuity, are transformed into the hardest jobs in the world.
