Synopsis

With this poetry collection, Valerie Valente draws inspiration from Greco-Roman mythology and the fairytales she devoured as a child. Exploring themes of nature, rebirth, existentialism, and romance, Valente weaves a vivid tapestry of words which transport the reader to ocean shorelines and ancient woodlands. Perfect for a cosy, cottagecore read beside the fireplace, this reflective odyssey is brimming with sensory delights that beg to be revisited many times over. Poems like 'Faery Dust' provide a whimsical element of recaptured, childhood wonder, while pieces like 'The Hell Hounds Within Us' and 'Ariadne' grapple with darker issues like transgression and trauma. Queries of morality and purpose resound throughout the pages, inspiring further reverie and introspection. The volume is enhanced by captivating photographs of statuary, taken by Valente on her travels. The imagery aids in artfully binding the collection together, enhancing the compelling nouveau-classic vibe which Valente has crafted.
