According to the New York Post, US President Donald Trump has discussed the need to end the war in Ukraine in a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is the first direct conversation between Vladimir Putin and a US president in about three years. In an interview published on Saturday, February 10, Donald Trump expressed hope for a quick end to Russia's war with Ukraine, without mentioning the number of times he has spoken to Vladimir Putin, saying: "I hope it will be quick. People are dying every day. This war in Ukraine is very bad." According to the New York Post, Donald Trump said that Putin wants to stop killing people. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov refused to confirm or deny the New York Post report, telling the Russian news agency TASS that calls had been made through various channels. The withdrawal of Ukraine’s application for NATO membership and the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from four Russian-occupied regions in Ukraine are among the conditions that Putin had previously set for an immediate end to the war.
