About Urs Nuessli
Hi, my name is Urs Nuessli, a bass player from Switzerland. I’ve been a freelance bassist and bass teacher for more than 30 years now.
Born in Lucerne, Switzerland, I began my musical career at the Jazz School Lucerne, where I acquired the fundamentals of bass and theory.
I continued my studies at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and studied with renowned teachers, among others with Bruce Gertz, Hal Crook and Jerry Bergonzi. I also got the chance to play and learn from so many fellow musicians from all over the world.
After returning to Switzerland, I taught at the Academy of Contemporary Music and the Kalaidos University for many years before I founded my own music school for electric bass.
As an author, I wrote several books on jazz harmony, rhythm studies and ear training. My latest book How to play Bass has just been published and serves as a basis for these videos.
Over the years, I’ve been playing concerts in the jazz, funk and fusion areas, in theatre, musical and gospel productions; in various recordings from fusion, funk, musical, gospel, rock to metal, including performances with drummers Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree) and Ian Paice (Deep Purple) - as well as concerts with great local bands.
With this course I would like to pass on my experience, which I have gained over the years, to you and to support you in your efforts to learn this exciting instrument as much as I can!
