Synopsis

Joining the Manchester Police service in 1963, the author, a retired Police officer relates his experiences whilst describing the kind of lifestyles that people in the Ancoats district of Manchester encountered during his first twelve months of service. The emotions that he encountered from humor to sadness along with some the sexual antics that took place during this period, reveal exactly what life was like for the Police and for the public, without whom there would be no stories. Having lived first in the rural districts of South Wales where he was born and then in the outskirts of Manchester, the authors experience of inner city life was quite restricted so that his introduction to life at Mill street Police station in an area known as Bradford, which bordered onto Ancoats revealed to him very enlightening experiences. His memory of most of what occurred has been recorded for the enjoyment of the reader.
