Robby - The Scottish Years

In 1995 my dad’s life story Herinneringen aan Delft (Memories of Delft) is published. That's what I'll do when I am his age, I decide. That moment arrives in early 2020. Our isolated Covid-19 life gives me the last push to get started. In August 2022 I finished the job. My book Robby has 526 pages, 160,000 words and 1,100 illustrations. May 2023. Covid has messed up all our travelling plans. An invitation for a press trip to the Côte d’Opale arouses our travel genes again. ‘Six years ago we were last in Schotland’, Els says. ‘Let’s go on a Memory Lane trip and see old friends before we get to old to travel.’ With DFDS we book a crossing in september. And I start on what I planned to do a while ago: make an English translation of the Scottish Years chapter in my book. I already translated three chapters for friends. These are now combined with The Scottish Years in this publication, which is specially made for our 2023 trip to Scotland.
