Synopsis
Tawney of Oxford and their Relatives
is a collection of biographical notes, with accompanying family trees, drawing upon archival records and much other information that is available in the public domain. Illustrations help to provide context and bring the characters to life.
The biographical notes include some fascinating stories and characters, including a seventeenth century female James Bond, a national financial crisis, and a nineteenth century parliamentary election.
A series of family trees shows how members of the Tawney family are related to each other and to other, often influential, families by marriage, such as Treacher, Morrell, Wharton and Whorwood.
The reader is taken on a journey in time from the late 16th century into the beginning of the current millennium. The Tawneys’ development is traced from occupations on the River Thames to brewing, building, banking, canal building, education and government in British India. Five Tawneys became Mayor of the City of Oxford and a sixth was Mayor of Banbury.
About Martin K Thompson
I have been actively researching my family for some 20 years and come across some interesting people along the way. In the case of a few of these I have assembled enough information to be able to write about them in journal articles and books. These include
"Tawney of Oxford and their Relations".
"Richard Bore – The First Carriage Superintendent of London & North Western Railway, Designer of Queen Victoria’s Saloons".
"Mary Ann Greening - A Mormon Pioneer" (see https://www.lulu.com/spotlight/MKT1817)
