Umar Marvi

Umar Marvi is a folktale from Amarkot now Umerkot in Sindh. The story is part of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetic collection Shah Jo Risalo and is part of seven popular tragic romances from Sindh, Pakistan. This is a story of Thari girl named Marvi who was kidnapped by the ruler of Amarkot King Umar because he wanted to marry her. When she refused, she was kept in captivity at Umerkot Fort. However, eventually was able to escape. Marvi is regarded as a symbol of braver and love for homeland.
