Synopsis
In 16th century Ireland three young boys meet one day in the Co Wexford village of Kilnatrane, their meeting place is a well known landmark known locally as the big tree. They come from starkly contrasting social and religious backgrounds, Tom Brewster is the son of a Presbyterian blacksmith, Maurice O'Gorman hails from a family of Irish Catholic tenant farmers, Peter Maxwell meanwhile is the heir of a wealthy Anglican Protestant family. From there they form an unbreakable friendship as over the years they come of age through adventure, romance and tragedy. Ultimately however their destinies culminate together in the United Irishmen rebellion of 1798. As the men partake in the fight for a nation's freedom their friendships are tested as their fight becomes a struggle for survival. From the author of Rogue Tan comes a tale of life, liberty and rebellion which turns back the pages to luminate just one of many chapters of Ireland's troubled history.
