Synopsis
The Ayrshire police war memorial lists the names of twenty one officers who fell in the two World Wars. This book charts the history of the war memorial raised to remember the officers of the Ayrshire Constabulary and Kilmarnock Burgh Police forces who made the ultimate sacrifice and gives some background of policing by the two forces, and the Ayr Burgh Police force, during both conflicts. In commemoration of the officers named on the memorial, a summary of their service and short lives, and where possible images of the officers themselves, brings a personal and lasting story to the list of twenty one names, and perpetuates their memory for future generations.
About Alasdair J. Malcolm
Born in Ayr and brought up in Prestwick where he still lives with his wife Catherine, three daughters Fiona, Alison and Karen and grand daughter Mila, Alasdair was educated at Prestwick Public School, Kingcase Primary and Prestwick Academy. At the age of 20 Alasdair joined Strathclyde Police in 1985 and completed his 30 years service entirely in South Ayrshire, retiring in 2015 having been stationed at various times in Ayr, Maybole, Troon, Prestwick and Prestwick Airport. Alasdair has been involved in golf administration in Ayrshire for over 30 years, having been President of The Ayrshire Golf Association from 2008 to 2010 and held the post of Secretary of the same organisation from 2009 until the present day. He is also a keen and long standing supporter of his local football team, Ayr United. Alasdair has always had a keen interest in history and in particular local history in Ayrshire and regularly contributes to a variety of local history forums.
