Synopsis
It is with profound joy and great admiration that I share some of the special people, places and events of my great hometown, New Bern, NC. There are many more great pioneers not mentioned that impacted the lives of so many New Bernians, in such a special way. Please allow me to share a few individuals from the past and the present who have impacted and continue to impact the lives of many in the Craven County New Bern community. Many of the individuals mentioned in this book have departed from this earthly journey; while others mentioned are still living and making a significant impact not only in the New Bern area, but across the Nation.
Most of the bios of individuals mentioned in this book are written in narrative form using the first-person point of view. The author did not want its readers to feel they were reading an obituary. Although many of the individuals are no longer with us, the legacy of a well-spent life continues to live on in the minds, spirits, and hearts of many who are left behind.
The writer’s aim is to provide a tool for readers to remember the many contributions that African Americans have given to the great city of New Bern, NC.
