Synopsis

This Project is the fruit of an abrupt end in the first 27 years of my life. While my father James held prominent and very public positions throughout his life, our family and I, for the most part, led very simple and quiet lives. Nothing, absolutely nothing could have prepared us for the events of march 6th in 2016. While finishing brunch in my newly furnished Lagos Apartment, i received a text message basically commiserating with my and informing me of his death only an hour prior. The earth shifted under my feet but the news got even worse. The car crash earlier that morning had also claimed the lives of my mother, Blessing and favorite sibling. Unboxed is what you get when Ojone has had 3 long years to marinate on the concept of who she was as she accepts who she must now be. It shared opinions, thoughts, stories, advice and photos from a period of my life all told in the language of love (sometimes thought) to teach lessons to help others with my experiences.I’d like to wrap this up by confessing that while this is a Christ inspired book to its core, it contains cuss words sprinkled randomly throughout the book. I was instructed to use them and so I have. Goodluck.

About Ojone Ocholi

Ojone is a 31 year old business educated, african Preacher who lost her father, mother and baby brother in a car crash in 2016. Her father James was famous in the legal and political spheres in her country and so as a sitting Minister at the time of his death, the tragic loss became a very public event adding more trauma to an already very painful situation. It took 3 years for Ojone, his first and oldest child to open up for the first time by writing Unboxed with a primary aim to encourage bravery. Raised christian, her faith is now the obvious cornerstone of her identity as it is the only constant thread evident throughout the very many topics covered in the chapters of the book. It is her hope to inspire the same radical transparency in this generation of africans that could one day lead to an open and more accountable african society, unafraid and unashamed to share and allow discussions of taboo topics currently contributing to the silent sufferings and hostage of way too many.
