UMUOMA village was located in an isolated place. The name meant LAND OF BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE. It was accessible mainly through the BLUE RIVER. Unlike most other villages, UMUOMA village was founded by a woman called OFUNWA (THE ONLY CHILD). The village came into existence by accident. OFUNWA was believed to be barren but by the time she gave birth she was helped by a group of chimpanzees. Many years after, a young woman was born in UMUOMA village. Unfortunately she was eaten by the "THE CROCODILE IN THE MUD" Her husband UZOIGWE who was a descendant of ARE ONAKAKANFO- a Yoruba warrior was angry and killed "THE CROCODILE IN THE MUD" THE PRIEST OF THE BLUE RIVER appeared on the scene. He insisted that the goddess was angry for the death of her son. The only way to appease the goddess was for the people of UMUOMA to start worshipping the crocodile. It is dangerous to approach a crocodile at the river side. A crocodile can eat human beings. However, you can observe THE CROCODILE IN THE ZOO.
