Synopsis
Filipinos either love him or hate him, but several opinion polls in the country keep showing that this tough, maverick man from a southern city in Mindanao who once burnt the Singapore flag, cursed the Pope, and insulted a US President before Asian leaders, is now the most popular president ever in the Philippines' entire history.
People in this southeast Asian country still do not realize that they are living in historic times. There has never been a Philippine President as Rodrigo Duterte.
No president before him can no longer compare with all he has done, so far, for this Third World country. Scholars and experts from Western countries will probably spend years trying to figure out what makes this tick with the 16 million Filipinos who voted this man Duterte who never wanted to be a president of his country.
