HISTORY OF ILLYRIAN BOSNIA - FROM THE ILLYRIANS TO THE PRESENT

The writing of this book was an attempt to consider the history of the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina in a broad temporal span-from the oldest traces of human presence, through ancient communities and the medieval Bosnian state, to the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods, Yugoslav states, the struggle for independence, war and the challenges of contemporary society. The history of Bosnia and Herzegovina is complex and multi-layered. Different civilizations, political traditions, religious communities, languages and cultural experiences meet in it. A book bearing the title History of Illyrian Bosnia must at the same time respect the ancient past and clearly mark the limits of what can be reliably claimed about it. .We cannot change the past, but we can change the way we understand it. And how we understand the past often determines what kind of future we will build. This book is not merely a chronology of events. It is an attempt to discern, through the dust of centuries, the face of a country that has always been more than a geographical concept.
