Synopsis
This is a seasonal volume on the subject of Autumn in the publisher's Anorak Guides. One hundred and fifty-two photographs follow the course of Autumn in northwestern Europe, from the end of summer until the arrival of winter. There are images of almost-bare trees, brightly-coloured foliage and berries, and majestic free-falling leaves, to the point of ignominy being raked in piles to be thrown away or burned.
"I put a new camera through its paces to photograph leaves in flight. Easy, in an avenue of plane trees on a calm, sunny October afternoon? Even after adjusting the camera settings, this photographer was all over the place with erratic trajectories and waiting for the autofocus to catch up. Over three Autumns, camera and hand-eye co-ordination came into their own with, for example, the cover shot of a plane tree leaf in front of a historic house in Deux-Sèvres, France.”
