Synopsis

What Remains by Dr. Sarah Nalind is a deep look into human pain, longing, and identity. The book explains that when we experience difficult events, we actually face two kinds of losses. The first loss is the event itself like an injury or a broken relationship. The second loss is the harder one: it is the loss of the future we imagined, the apology we never got, and the dream that things would finally be fixed. Nalind explains that as children, we build habits and survival strategies just to stay connected to others. Over time, we mistake these habits for our real personality. Real healing happens when we stop trying to control everything and instead listen to our bodies, which carry hidden memories of fear and tension. The book advises us not to rush away from emptiness or force ourselves to feel peaceful too quickly. When our standard plans, success, and expectations fall away, we learn who we really are without them. What remains is pure presence a steady, quiet love that does not depend on our performance or external conditions.

About Sarah Nalind

For more than two decades, my work has brought me into close contact with the inner life of relationships, how we attach, desire, withdraw, protect ourselves, reach for one another, and sense what is happening before we have words for it. My understanding has been shaped by psychology and psychotherapy, by the intelligence of the body, and by years spent listening to people speak about the most intimate parts of their lives. I have become particularly interested in what exists beneath relational behaviour: the subtle shifts in presence, attention, tension and receptivity through which so much passes between two people. SENSE grew from this territory. It is an exploration of polarity, relationship and presence, and of our capacity to perceive more precisely what is happening within us, between us, and in the space a relationship creates. I am also an author, teacher and the creator of Nalind Embodied Psychotherapy.
