Invisible Abuse

Violence is often understood in strictly unilateral terms, as a phenomenon directed exclusively by men against women. Most definitions follow this line; for instance, Ramos (2012) describes gender-based violence as “violence perpetrated against women simply because they are women, a violence that crosses borders and cultures and continues to persist despite progress made in other areas of society.” However, a significant silence surrounds violence committed against men, treating female victimhood as if it were the only existing reality.
