10 Basic Concepts About Sexuality

The word “basic” can have a negative connotation, as when something is considered too simple or minimal. However, that is not the meaning intended in this book. Here, “basic” refers to the idea of a “base”: the fundamental points from which we should begin in order to understand a message or concept. It may seem ambitious to reduce sexuality to 10 “basic” concepts, but every analysis needs a starting point. Our purpose is simply to identify the essential foundations upon which an understanding and, at least, a preliminary analysis of sexuality can be built. These concepts are not intended to exhaust the complexity of sexuality, but rather to provide a clear starting framework for approaching the subject.
