Sherlock on Solway

When Holmes learns that an attempt on the Queen's life will be made on her visit to Dumfries & Galloway, he hastens to offer his services to protect her. He is rebuffed. With great relish Inspector Lestrade informs him: “You've been made redundant Mr Holmes. Mycroft's got others to fry his fish for him. He don't need you, nor you Dr Watson. Me neither, if the truth be told. We find ourselves in the same boat, but we're not required to catch any fish . . . “He's engaged other men – Dick Drummond, War Office chap, and Peter Whimsey, consulting detective like yourself, Lord Peter Whimsy I should say rather.” If anything this makes Holmes more determined than ever. He is soon on the Caledonian railway bound for Wigtown. With him is Dr Watson, but, accompanying him on a case for the first time, is Mrs Hudson and Madame Clair Voyant, a clairvoyant. Awaiting them is a journey along the Solway Coast, with Drumghoulie House, cut off at high tide and haunted by nightmare creatures from the deeps, at the end.
