Black Histories in the Heart of Europe

Synopsis
Moving between personal reflection, historical research, and cultural commentary, the book traces how Black presence and Black identity have been understood, overlooked, or reframed across Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia—while also placing those narratives in conversation with Europe, the United States, and Africa.
Rather than treating “Black history” as a fixed or imported framework, the essays engage with how it shifts across geography and context: how it is recorded (or not), how it is remembered, and how it is lived. At times intimate and reflective, at times analytical, the book resists a single authoritative narrative in favor of a more complex, situated understanding of history and identity.
