Synopsis
For a century, humanity has lived in a fragile balance with Heimer, an all-powerful sentient AI. This peace is enforced by the Ensemble Accords, but a routine deep-space probe has shattered the status quo by intercepting an impossible signal: the location of Stapledon Station, a colossal artificial construct.
The UN ship Kia-Kaha travels the vast vacuum of space to reach the site, carrying humanity's finest minds and most guarded secrets. Among the crew is xenoarchaeologist Clio Cormack, a brilliant but impulsive scientist. She quickly realises that the truth is buried beneath layers of political manoeuvring and scientific consensus. The station is hiding something ancient, vast, and deliberately concealed.
When Clio ignores her superiors to investigate an anomaly, she pierces the cosmic veil, leading the mission to a discovery that plunges the crew into mortal danger. As the race to uncover the station’s purpose intensifies, Clio must rely on her reckless instincts and a dangerous alliance.
About Richard Davill
From the Solomon Islands to the streets of Kyiv, Richard Davill has made a career out of going where he is needed most. An expert in operational leadership and emergency response , Richard has spent the last decade managing logistics and strategy in some of the world’s most complex crisis settings, from armed conflicts to major natural disasters.
Now, he’s applying that hard-won field experience to the cosmos. Drawing on years of coordinating relief efforts on the ground, Richard brings a gritty, logistical realism to his sci-fi. He understands exactly what it takes to keep a team functioning when the comms go down and the supplies run low, whether that’s in a disaster zone on Earth or aboard the Kia-Kaha facing an alien anomaly.
When not writing about Dyson spheres or rogue AIs, he lives in Yorkshire, where he spends his time skiing and clarifying that having a Master’s degree in “Disasters” doesn’t mean he causes them
