Synopsis
Who are the most important jazz personalities? And who gets to decide? In this book, Jonas Müller takes you on an alternative journey through the history of jazz, incorporating influences from other styles such as Latin traditions, rhythm and blues, gospel and pop/rock. You will learn what modal jazz is, how to tell the difference between swing and bebop, how you improvise collectively in New Orleans jazz, and whether Americans, Latin-Americans and Europeans each have their own approach to playing jazz. With an extensive discography and musical examples based on Jonas Müller's lifetime experience performing and teaching jazz and world music, this book is a valuable resource for both advanced and beginner students of jazz as well as people wanting to understand the historic jazz tradition on a deeper level.
