David Marques, a former Captain in the Portuguese Army, lives behind a hard-won façade of serenity. After years of war zones, clandestine operations and missions that can never be officially acknowledged, he abandons military life to teach History in Coimbra. But his fragile normality shatters when his younger brother, a promising archaeologist, uncovers a secret passage beneath the Joanina Library. What begins as an academic discovery quickly unfolds into a vast conspiracy spanning centuries — perhaps millennia. Portuguese monarchs, secret societies, forbidden manuscripts and artefacts of unknown origin converge in a hidden network beneath the city.
