Synopsis
A Testimony from a Witness
Among Them
This book is a humble attempt to clarify the background,
circumstances, and repercussions of the moral crisis
surrounding the publication of the offensive cartoons of
the Prophet Muhammad. The Danish government
considered this crisis the greatest political and economic
crisis the country had faced since World War II.
The Islamic world, with its more than one billion
Muslims, also considers it a blatant insult to Islam,
deepening a chasm that continues to widen between the
Western and Islamic worlds. This chasm is a result of
years of accumulated disregard for Muslim sentiments,
which has undermined efforts toward interfaith dialogue
and reconciliation.
Numbers of Danish books, hundreds of articles, analyses,
and opinion polls have been published regarding this
crisis, some of which have been translated into Arabic.
However, these primarily reflect Danish and Western
culture and perspectives, regardless of any degree of
sympathy for Muslims or understanding of Islam.
Furthermore, translating and interpreting everything that
might be implied or hidden between the lines is inherently
difficult due to differences in concepts
