Synopsis

With an interplay of comedic wit and heartbreaking authenticity, these tales reveal vulnerable protagonists and neglected heroes alike. From golems to automatons, houseflies to politicians, we begin to question the very definition of a monster, even as we acknowledge the inner battles some must wage against their own murky natures "Harrison is an extraordinary writer, delivering a sensitive, funny, raw and precious collection that everyone should read." - Louise Beech, Guardian Readers' Choice Author "A true treasure-chest of an anthology, with bittersweet memories, quirky characters and quietly devastating moments of insight - generously seasoned with a dash of surreal humour from the heart of the Lockdown months. This is one to read from cover to cover, and then to go back to and choose pages at random to rediscover just how clever each piece is." - Cassandra Parkin, East Riding Poet Laureate

About Lynda Harrison

Lynda Harrison was born and brought up in Hull. She began performing in the mid-sixties, at just sixteen years old. A founder member of one of the first British all-female groups and one of five teenaged girls who found themselves reluctantly centre stage in the lion's den, a male dominated industry! This was an oddly serendipitous occurrence for Lynda, significantly because her formative years, prior to this, had been adverse in many of its aspects. Historically this chapter of her life is what began forming the basic recipe for the development of her love of writing, appreciation of poetry and passion for storytelling. The secret sauce for some of her stories is humour. ‘This’, Lynda says, ‘is what has got me through’.
