Us and Them

The 12-year reign of terror under the Nazi regime showed what happens when hatred of Jews and the unrestrained implementation of racist ideas become state policy. The main historical focus of this workbook is therefore to use selected examples to trace the fundamental driving forces that transformed a modern European society into a participatory community of exclusion in an alarmingly short period of time. The revised second edition of the workbook, comprising 279 pages (with more than 120 black-and-white illustrations), contains 35 suggestions for assignments as well as 23 QR codes that link to color maps, historical photos, and short video clips. Short biographical sketches are devoted primarily to individual victims of Nazi mass crimes. The target audience ranges from history students and teachers who are frustrated by the incomplete portrayal of Nazi crimes in their textbooks to all those people, young and old, who are still searching for answers to the monstrous acts of violence that emerged from the heart of our society 90 years ago.
