Synopsis
In ‘The Diaries of a naturalist,’ the reader is invited back to the mid-1970s to experience the creation and conservation of the Carlton Marsh Nature Reserve, on the doorstep of what was then an industrial area.
Learn about the changing attitudes to nature conservation, developing a nature reserve and the first sighting of the Ring Ouzel. Plus, stories, anecdotes and tips from a lifetime spent observing, researching and documenting the rich history of nature and wildlife in one corner of South Yorkshire.
About John J Jackson
John was born in Chester-Le-Street, County Durham, in 1945, and was raised in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
His passion for nature began when, as a small boy, he saw a grass snake zig-zagging across water and wondered what had caused the snake to go into the water.
For the past 50 years, the author has written about nature in his yearly diaries, which inspired him to write this book.
